An overlooked part of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy was launched in Newark when he unveiled plans for his Poor People’s Campaign during a news conference at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton Hill on March 27, 1968.
His plans called for a lengthy encampment in Washington to bring to light the issue of poverty in America and the need for “jobs (and) income for all Americans.”
As we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, it is important to remember that the foundation of his dream was equality.
