More than six dozen faith leaders back Ras Baraka for governor
Citing his vision and values, a massive coalition of 76 faith leaders from Atlantic to Bergen and of diverse denominations have endorsed Newark Mayor Ras Baraka for governor in next year’s Democratic primary.
With organization lines gone and a field of contenders to replace term-limited Gov. Phil Murphy expanding to six by next Monday, Baraka is depending on a statewide grassroots effort partially dependent on empowering congregations who support the three-term Newark mayor’s “commitment to social justice, fairness, and transformative change.”
“Mayor Baraka understands the daily challenges our communities face, from housing and education to healthcare and public safety,” said Pastor Pablo Pizarro, the lead pastor at the Lighthouse Assembly of God in Newark. “He has been an advocate not only for Newark but for every city and town in our state that has been overlooked and underserved. I am proud to stand with him, knowing that his leadership as Governor would reflect the heart and soul of our state.”
