Meet Ras Baraka
Ras J. Baraka, a Newark native, poet, and educator, is the transformative Mayor of New Jersey’s largest city. Under his leadership, Newark achieved a 60-year low in crime, replaced 23,000 lead service lines at no cost to residents, and reduced homelessness by 57%. Once facing a $90 million deficit, Newark now thrives with unprecedented economic growth.
A member of Alpha Phi Alpha, Ras is a lifelong advocate for equity and opportunity. Now running for Governor of New Jersey, his vision centers on tackling systemic challenges—affordability, housing, education, and transportation—while fostering inclusivity and prosperity for all.
